Of Joy and Woe, Of Hope and Fear

I knew love that slipped away,
To Death’s cold, icy stay,
In their wake, a chill remained,
Filled with sorrow, grief, and pain.

Of joy and woe, of hope and fear,
Now in dreams their face appears.
The boat that sailed along my shore,
Floats upon the sea no more.

But time so cruel and fate unjust,
Took them away, and left me thrust
Into a world of sleepless nights,
Where shadows move to hide the light.

I read the Book and sang the psalms.
I hoped for peace and prayed for calm.
There were no answers, quiet still,
Heard the echos, empty fill.

The haunting ache, a frequent friend,
Dulled by time, but in the end,
May rest find me alongside you,
And give me peace I never knew.
